Eric Bogle

06/02/2026 by susanna

here in australia and especially in Melbourne, we attract musicians from Scotland. What brings them here? The weather? the people? In any case They’ve done wonders for our music scene, bless’em

Eric Bogle is one of those musical scots who chose australia as his home and how grateful we are,
n. So many of Eric’s songs are the futility of war and the loss from war – I find myself close to tears. but then again all of his songs move me deeply, sometimes to actual tears. that’s how good they are. Prominent among these is “And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, written in 1971, later covered by Joan Baez, The Pogues, June Tabor and many more. The lyrics recount the experiences of a member of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) in the Battle of Gallipoli. It has also been interpreted as a reaction to the Vietnam War.

to settle near Adelaide,

his first written songs concerned his parents. One of these, “Leaving Nancy”, which sang of the day he left home for Australia, being the last time he saw his mother Nancy, was often covered, most notably by the Dubliners and the Fureys.
Several of his most famous songs tell of the futility or loss of war.

Another of his best-known songs, “No Man’s Land”, is also World War I-themed. This song is commonly known as “The Green Fields of France”, a title it was first given by the Fureys and which has subsequently been used in many further cover versions. The song refers to the traditional Scottish song “Flowers of the Forest” being played over the grave of a World War I soldier. Bogle deliberately gave the dead soldier an Irish name (“Willie McBride”) as a counter to the anti-Irish sentiment prevalent in Britain during the 1970s.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of zionist interference in Australian arts via @omarsakrpoet (thanks Pablo)

1) Triple J ‘disciplined’ Miss Kannina for calling Israel’s actions a ‘genocide, deleted her episode and axed all future guest-hosted programs on the Hip Hop Show.

Ewwen McColl
Ewan MacColl’s early CV is something extraordinary, left school at 14, political activist at 15, founded theatre troupe at 16, on MI5’s files at 17 and the godfather of British folk revival at 35 – There’s evidence here of a fearless, galvanic character whose influence is still causing ripples and has been since his death in 1989).

MacColl is best known for a couple of classic songs: the much-covered Dirty Old Town and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

MacColl’s back story as a communist agitator and playwright (much admired by George Bernard Shaw) has faded, while his prolific songwriting and recording (around 300 songs and scores of albums) is of interest mainly to the folk faithful, among whom he remains a revered but controversial figure.

For sixty years he was at the cultural forefront of numerous political struggles, producing plays, songs and scripts on the subjects of apartheid, fascism, industrial strife and human rights. It has been said that he was an enormous fish in a small pond –

How to record and send a voice memo

21/02/2024 by susanna

Recording a voice memo on an iPhone is quite easy. All you have to think about is avoiding the noises around you when you record – such as your fridge or your playful dog.

voice memo app
It looks like this

Step 1. Go to “Voice Memos” App on your iPhone.

Step 2. Click the red “Record” button on your screen to begin the recording.

Step 3. Tap on the “Record” button again to stop recording. Then you can click the “Play” button to play if you want to listen to the voice memo you’ve recorded.

Step 4. Hit the SHARE button to send this file as an attachement by Email to susanna.duffy@gmail.com

Let me introduce myself

03/08/2021 by susanna

G’day, my name is Susanna Duffy, the Seniorista Tour Guide.

I’ve lived in a few places in Australia and Europe but I’m in love with Melbourne. It’s a terrific city. The people of multicultural Melbourne are from diverse and often astounding backgrounds, so as a result we’re the Foodie Capitol of Australia and indeed the first city to embrace good coffee. We say that we instigated the culture of the coffee bar. I run a number of Tours through Queen Victoria and South Melbourne Markets and follow up on the Farmer’s Markets held around the city and regional areas.

Have a look at this Sugar Cane being juiced!

Juicing Bamboo
Queen Vctoria Market

I love to share my city. The food of course, the festivals dedicated to food and the makers of good food and wine. But I also like to share other aspects of Melbourne, like Puffing Billy, our tranquil gardens and Cruises along the Birrarung. Plus a fruitbat ot two, the occasional koala and the Little Penguins of St Kilda.

How to do Reviews

27/07/2021 by susanna

I’m going to leave a Review for Monica

So I’ll click that blue link called ‘Leave review’ and this page opens up

I click ‘Start’ and the next step appears

Everything worked well, so I’ll choose ‘Excellent’. I’m not going to write anything else here, I’ll move on. I’ll click on ‘Next’ for the next step

I’ll click on ‘Next’. This brings me to a question about the Guide, Mojca.

How would I rate Mojca’s tour? I enjoyed it, so I’ll say that. First I choose ‘Excellent’ from the drop-down menu

Then I’ll write a couple of lines about the tour. As soon as something is written, the ‘Submit your review’ button deepens in colour, and becomes a link

There, I’ve submitted a review.
